Verse 1

Gray skies fall across the structure of the world
between the pavement and the trees lie a boy and a girl
It's crazy to believe that it will last
Striving for the future with their minds of the past
Is there sins to forgive? Is there Love to be made?
Is this Love meant to last or will it crash, burn and fade?
An everlasting question that will stand the test of time
but if we listenin' to the past maybe the present will incline
and remind this loving couple that a heart can only shine,
a meeting in the middle man and Angel, so divine
beneath all the lust and the sex we take for granted
there's a person that exists behind emotional attatchment
If we realize Love is Free, then maybe there can be
An understanding of the masses so Love can proceed,
It's what we need in this life, if we are to overcome,
the misconceptions, misuse and abuse of someone's Love
and as I look above and ask a simple question...
Will an Angel Love a man if he makes a good impression?
and the lesson that I learn, I take to the heart
If you mistreat an Angel she flies off into the stars

Verse 1

My devilish thoughts split my soul in two
A struggle between the life I want and the one I’m gonna choose
I could never lose or handle the responsibility of my choice
My hands start to shake, anxiety in my voice
But I push on, hopin for a worthwhile endeavor
To negate the pain I’m gonna feel after the pleasure
And the pressure to overcome, all that I’ve done
In my dreams I’m being chased but there’s nowhere to run
And it’s not a possibility for me to wake up
Will the champion inside me, ever stand up?
To erase all the punches that I’ve taken head on
Until my last breath kisses my lungs
And my tongue I’ll leave behind
so my words you can cherish
Don’t let them take your minds or your future will perish
It’s important to understand that nothing is given
And if you want to wake up, stop the life that you’re livin’

Verse 2

When I open my eyes I’m never surprised
To walk outside and feel the mask
Covering jealousy, envy and lies
And the sex filled tapes that feed the mind of our young
No one’s responsible, the corporations duck and run
We inherit a mind that’s inherently numb
To perpetuate a system they don’t want overcome
By an intelligent thought, the use of a pen and pad
A blanket swept system that’s conveniently black
And white, an oversight? Why don’t you do the math
While they guide you with the right
They stab you in the back
It’s a mess were left with and there’s no one to blame
You can’t pinpoint a target or they’ll take you out the game
I write to fight the system with the mind that I’ve gained
And if I start to lose the mission, my words will remain
So stay sane and try to break free from the mold
Do you want to do what’s right or want to do what you’re told?

Verse 1

Always wakin’ up with a look on my face
Another blank day in life, turnin’ the page
I can never erase, anything that I say
So I try to move forward pullin’ my weight
All I feel is silence pullin’ me down
Screamin’ for help, no one hears the sound
I try to make sense of the love that I’ve found
Pushin’ my Soul further deep underground
I’m reachin’ out, stretchin for a hand
Touch the wrong one, and you’ll drown in quicksand
I will never understand, the ways that we plan
Sacrificing others just so we can get ahead
While some of us run, too scared to hold a gun
Watch the self-righteous suicide of a loved one
I’m hearin’ now, the sound of a pop
The façade disappears when the cameras drop
Dependin on others, just to carry a show
You’re a lost soul, searchin for your pot of gold
If you run to fast you’ll fall off the rainbow
Grab a hold of your life and take it real slow
Cause if it was up to me, it would all be love
Turn from the path of cash, lies and blood
And catch ya breath, give up the rest
Enlighten your mind until nothings left
I breathe my life into the ink of my pen
And when the ink is gone, I use the blood of my hand
The words from my tongue are like a rose in the sand
Caught in the wind to make me a free man
Because nothings free and as you will see
I have the mind of a martyr and as hard as you try
You could never silence me

Verse 2

Death and destruction, the push of a button
Sing a lullaby to ya kids while they crush ya
Feel the genocide and oh, did I mention?
To take a man’s life is an art of perfection
No more affection, no room for the weak
Except to mark days bombs drop on ya street
No water to drink and no food to eat
And a war at home to get drugs off the beat
Some corrupt police, where do we go?
Crimes still committed, while the prisons overflow
So what do we know? Is it all just a show?
We hate against our brothers and they keep us on our toes
I’m so fed up, I’ve had enough
A misogynist system got our women on the cusp
Keepin’ em’ all from makin’ a buck
Unless they slidin’ down a pole to make rent in a month
It’s dangerous this game we play
Waitin’ for the climax to put us in our place
While we fall into our grave or
Try to stay alive just to make it out the maze
Hopin’ to hear the voice of a loved one
To raise better days from the lonelier ones
Making a life from the holes that we dug
We owe it to our women just to show them real love
No disrespect, misrepresent, we have the tools to reconnect
Balance and check our own complex
Try to minimize your discontent
If you’re lashin’ out you’ll have no Love left
To prove to all what you can do
Don’t let them play you for a fool
We all fall down, but the love is in you.

Our Moon (a Poem for Rachel)

The moon shines bright
On a night when Love leaves
For a moment, suspended in the air
The embrace of a crushed feeling,
Arms stretched out for sweet return
Will I see my Love again?
We pass through days, long in thought
Occupied by the mind; what is misplaced
Longing for the reunion of skin
Ears stretched out for the call of a distant voice
Eyes closed tight, passing by all sights
Until the Crash of your lips to mine,
Open eyes again to see my true life,
My true Love

"The Four Quartets"

We shall not cease from exploring
and at the end of our exploration,
We will return to where we started
and know the place for the first time.

                                    -T.S. Elliot

A True Valentine

1 Corinthians 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (ESV)

Imagine

Lyrics: David Berner and Derek Ehlert

Verse 1 (David)
Imagine that my hands were a different color
in a bubble with a significant other or my brothers,
I learned from my mother, we're all created equal
and Hip-Hop comes with 12 inches and a needle
so my conscience has got the best of me,
proceedin' through my life to 86 my greed
and I don't know where to lead so I ask you,
My pen writes Hip-Hop as my tongue speaks truth
so imagine, imagine the life that I live,
flows of poetry ever since I was a kid
I find it deep inside my consciousness,
Layin' freestyles as the 12 inch rips
so imagine, imagine a rhyme you couldn't fathom
back to the alleys and the roots of how it happened,
a kid that didn't know where he was goin'
closed eyes to imagine as he stated flowin'

Verse 2 (Derek)
Imagine what my past is worth to the passion
suburban outcast rockin' all the urban fashion
back of the class, writin verses
with the pen I was claspin, workin the days away
waitin' on the day to cash in
Now everyone askin, for the reason for the things I conceive
it seems the reason to give the beat box the will to breathe
If I get locked in a box, I know my minds still feelin' free
Its bafflin' to me to wonder where we'd be,
If Kool Herc never learned to scratch a record
or Grand Master Flash never passed on "The Message",
It's more than the cars, clothes and hoes
that makes the flow so infectious,
It takes multiple perceptions to put it all in perspective
so check it,
we went from raisin' bass and blazin' in the basement
to rockin' ya place straight from the radio station,
to see Pac on the Pope's playlist is an amazement
we're finally seein' things change, until then be patient
and just imagine..
imagine..

Verse 3
(David)
Imagine that my rhymes were food for thought,
in an underground mindframe rhymes can't be bought
but really did you think that you could ever find,
in this space in time, something better for your mind

(Derek)
Just imagine ONE TIME,
awakin' from the mainstream pipe dream,
from the dark to the daylight
make me fiend for the soul supreme,
so don't be nervous for the nourishment
so organic as a piece of the planet
in its purest sense

(David)
The purest sense, the soul pertains to the lips
it will leave ya blind eyes when the moon is eclipsed,
emerging from the mist are two men with the sense
leading you to imagine real Hip-Hop still exists

(Derek)
Lames still ill equipped, though what we rip
is used for the muse of the new movement,
supercharged bars give way to the new nuisance
rhythmatic addict got you groovin' on some cool shit
bringin' back some beyond honest music
and its like that...
Just Imagine..

Coming Home

"Coming Home Instrumental" - Produced by Alex Da Kid, Co-Produced by Jay-Z

Lyrics: David Berner

:Lyrics are a product of David Berner and are not to be reused or redistributed in any way:

Verse 1
Yo...
Give me freedom man...

Freedom never lasts in the sun,
while you catch laughs with loved ones
some catch the bullet from a gun,
It's hard to understand the desperation
as the tears of another give my pen inspiration
the ashes to ashes, we all fall down
and ignorance is bliss when you can't hear the sound
bodies, blood and the shells
as they all hit the ground,
stay in your safe house watchin' others breakin down,
and while you stay inside and let the story unfold
the rest of us will travel down our yellow-brick roads
and find what we need in this life
it will wash over all when we make it through the strife
so hold your head up high and raise your fist to the sky
yellow roads paved to gold with the tears from
your eyes.

Verse 2
Collecting my debris from the dust
weightless in your palm, I feel coarse to the touch
I was crushed in the clutch motivated by the lust
complain and stay restrained but it don't amount to much
and as I look up to the heavens for the keys to my chains
the world turns to gray, feel the thunder in my veins
I don't blame you for the ways in which I change,
Take the bad, release the good, so that love will remain
as I start to feel the rain on my complexion
I see the scene, it's so serene, outside the picture of perfection
I'm breaking through the frame...
So I can feel my OWN resurrection

Verse 3
Movin' up towards the heavenly skies
leave behind all the shame and the earthly goodbyes
it's a lie if you think it will ever change
when we pass from this world, this world remains the same
and I know we stay down and feel we'll never win
but a voice deep down, cries from within
sayin' it's time for those of us left behind
to try and make the most of our own time
in this life

4 Better or 4 Worse

"4 Better or 4 Worse Instrumental" - Produced by DJ Numark

Lyrics: David Berner and Derek Ehlert

:Lyrics are a product of David Berner and Derek Ehlert and are not to be reused or redistributed in any way:

Verse 1 (David)
Yo...
4 Better or 4 Worse man...

I remember those days gettin' in fights
behind the school bus and the best thing
they had to drink at lunch was an "Orange Crush"
for 5 bucks, you could either spend it or not
or buy somethin else with ma's money
and pray you don't get caught
but I was taught a handy lesson growin' up,
that I could be tough through ink
or be tough through sellin' drugs
and unfortunately kids don't have a lot of options
when theres no tools to succeed
it's behind bars or in the coffins
true and often does this happen
while I'm writin' rhymes or rappin
that I think about the chances I got, grateful I have em'
and it's a mission of mine to try and reach the masses
and keep my pocket change away
from government  and taxes,
raise your glasses when you feel you've
succeed in life and you've got a slice of heaven
with two kids and a wife, sounds tight
but I know somethin' that you don't like
without the less fortunate,
ya outta mind and outta sight

Verse 2 (Derek)
Back in the day I was unphased and unintelligent
gellin' front the television warped my brain to gelatin
weed heads said slang the sacks, but naw, never sellin' it,
instead became the face of rap, except lacked the melanin
but that's irrelevant, they all knew I was not to be fucked with
Metaphor megalomatic with more bars than a lego bucket,
before, excuse the pause, I was raw enough to "bring da ruckus"
while they try to box me in, I rip the strings out this puppet
In a remembrance of the fallen renegades, I am finally ready,
to convert all the conflicts of the past into blasts of confetti,
to flood the game like lil' wayne so best "raise the levys"
and finally come to terms with the bevy of beverages
I write, my lyrics don't measure but the liquor slowly leverages,
pass out, wake up with the gut rot and the brain hemorrhages
with a hand full of medicine to overcome the facebook evidence
and wash my face of disgrace as I go back to doin' my dirt
cause the promise of progress comes from puttin' in work
I'm just a jerk, searchin for the right words for what it's worth
lookin' at it for better when I know it is for worse..
when it's for worse...
ya'll know it is for worse

Verse 3 (David)
When I step into the confessional booth, with a hundred proof
I realize I lost the best days of my youth so what's the use
of continuin' on when it's rainin' death, stretchin' out my neck
so I can catch my last breath and whats next
for the man that can't admit his own mistakes
and he'd rather lose it all no matter how long it takes,
this life can break and destroy all that you have
demons in your present correlate to ya past,
then the smash, the explosion
when your mind starts erodin'
In this world some are scientists and some are rodents
but the maze that we live is our heaven or our hell
and if we reach the light only time can tell
and it will, are you the student of the teacher
i'm not the preview, yo I'm the main feature
did I reach ya? Did you get the point? If not,
just chill and nod ya head to the joint,
nod ya head to the joint
Yeah..

Non-Conformity

I wish the world would spend more time running up the downs and down the ups
